The Retail Forum

The Retail Forum aims to be a forum for those working for, or very closely with, retailers particularly within the areas of planning and execution of the physical movement of goods from supplier to the final customer, and where necessary back.

To get involved with your industry specific Forum and to ensure you receive information about our events, qualifications and news most relevant to you, all you have to do when becoming a CILT member is select the Retail Logistics Forum when making your Professional Sector and Forum selections.

It will consider all matters of common interest within the field of Retail Logistics, to include:

  • Physical distribution
  • Forecasting, replenishment and availability
  • Multi-channel and traditional supply routes
  • UK and international 
  • Farm to fork food and drink logistics supply chain, including agrifood, manufacturing, processing and primary transportation to purchasers in retail, wholesale and foodservice.
  • The development of talent and enhancing the quality of people within the industry
  • The promotion of retail logistics as a career
  • The parking of commercially competitive issues between Retailer, between suppliers and between 3PLs so that the forum can be industry enhancing, enabling substantive improvements in matters of common interest to the group. No selling of services or consultancy.
  • Sharing best practice within Retail Logistics but also looking for innovation and better practice from other industry sectors
  • A respected group championing the objectives of the industry and a source of counsel from external bodies 
  • A vibrant, common interest community through the creation of strong, new relationships – a place where members really want to come & participate 
  • Up and coming retail and supplier logisticians. The next generation of leaders
  • Anyone interested in enhancing their personal of business performance through greater use of external networks 

The Forum will be managed by an elected committee, comprising a nominated Chair and Vice Chair. The Committee will be supported by additional members of the Forum as necessary. Committee members will be expected to actively contribute to the Forum objectives in line with their area of expertise.

  • Develop and promote suitable forum events addressing topical issues
  • Networking
  • New communication channels – newsletter; social networking (To be developed)
  • Working Groups on specific topics of interest e.g. consolidation; warehouse automation, environment etc
  • Shadowing placements
  • Access to senior leaders and thought leaders
  • Benchmarking
  • Visits to leading edge retail logistics facilities
  • Sharing of best practice in addressing key business issues
  • Create links and develop mutual co-operation with other organisations.
  • Engage with academia when appropriate to promote research in line with sector issues.
  • Forge appropriate links with other CILT Forums
  • Thought-provoking master classes run by senior practitioners
  • Interaction with senior industry leaders and wider networking.
  • Retail Logistics specific communications channel - with a UK focus
  • Work shadowing programme and day placements in other non-competing organisations
  • Run a Retail Logistics convention to network, explore blue-sky thinking and to be inspired by presenters who have found success in a variety of ways
  • Better informed about our industry

  • Learn about other aspects of Retail Logistics you do not come across in their day to day job

Michael leads CHEP Europe’s focus on new reusable packaging solutions and on end-to-end grocery supply chain efficiency. He also chairs the Collaboration & Co-operation thematic Group for ALICE, focused on decarbonising freight transport across the EU. He is particularly interested in industry leadership: what are the critical few areas where progress is both imperative and cannot be delivered by individual companies acting alone?

Paul has supported Ramco UK’s business development focus since 2017 on the reuse and resale of surplus capital assets, including vehicles, plant & machinery, and industrial equipment, finding new homes for end of use items. 


As a seasoned business growth adviser with management consultancy WLP, Paul is also a vocal champion of the circular economy and he has a keen interest in the food & drink supply chain, where he held senior positions running plc and independent businesses.

Darren image

Darren is Head of Managed Services at ZigZag Global, an award winning SaaS business that supports retailers and 3PLs globally with its returns management software and global carrier offering.


Prior to ZigZag, he has spent his career in roles across the Supply Chain with companies such as Urban Outfitters and Pets at Home.


Away from work Darren is a big fan of watching Northampton Saints and Manchester United or getting out on the golf course, all of which he has little time for due to a young family!
