As a company registered at Companies House and a registered charity, CILT(UK) Limited is governed by a board of directors who also act as the charity’s trustees. The board is responsible for the stewardship and governance of the Institute’s activities and for the formulation and monitoring of the Institute’s strategic objectives. Board members are elected by the Institute’s membership and serve a four-year term.

Election to the Board is through a process of nomination and qualification review by the Nominations Committee and, if required, by election. This summer, CILT will be seeking three board members to bring the complement of elected members to seven.

The deadline for the receipt of expressions of interest is Friday 27th March 2020. If the number of suitable nominations received by the deadline exceeds the number of vacancies, then Institute members will be invited to take part in an election. Should an election be necessary, this would take between May and June 2020.

Following the guidance of the UK Charities Commission, the Board is seeking to attract a broad representation of its members and their interests. It is particularly keen to appoint members whose skills or background include:

Education, training and qualifications

Marketing and communications

Thought leadership

Members of the Institute holding the grade of MILT, CMILT or FCILT are eligible to express and interest. The role of board member requires commitment and is an ideal opportunity for members to engage and contribute at a strategic level in a leadership role for their professional body.

Interests from all CILT(UK) sectors are invited. Experience within the Rail or Operations Management sectors is desirable but not essential. Skills will be considered for compatibility with existing board members by the Nominations Committee in April.

Successful candidates will take their places on the Board in July 2020. Key dates and details of candidates for election will be announced in the May edition of Focus magazine and on the CILT(UK) website.
