Shipping giant joins Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

DFDS Seaways UK has joined the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK) as a corporate member.

The company is part of the DFDS Group who have a significant shipping, logistics and warehousing operation in the UK and Europe.

DFDS Seaways UK has its warehousing and logistics operation at Immingham in North East Lincolnshire. It sits on a 175 acre, rail connected site with 520 employees and 10 warehouses, and operates 35 weekly sailings.

Andrew Byrne, managing director of DFDS Seaways UK, said: “As a company it is very important to us to share best practice and work alongside our peers in terms of partnership, networking and professional development.

“The CILT brings together leaders and expertise from professionals working across the logistics and transport industry, be they involved in the management of design and infrastructure, systems, processes and information flows or in the creation, management and continuous improvement of effective organisations.”

The DFDS Group was founded in 1866. Listed on the Danish stock exchange, its HQ is in Copenhagen and it has 8,000 employees in 21 countries.

Immingham and Grimsby, where DFDS Seaways UK has its HQ, is the UK’s largest port by tonnage (59m tonnes imported every year) and is the fourth busiest port in Europe. In fact, 25% of all UK rail freight originates from the Port of Immingham.

A four hour drive from the River Humber (where Immingham sits) gives access to 40m people and 75% of UK manufacturing.
