GEODIS sets ambitious emissions reduction targets

Global logistics company GEODIS has set new science-based targets to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C goal.

The targets, which have been submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for approval, include cutting direct emissions from GEODIS' own fleets and buildings by 42% by 2030. The company also aims to reduce emissions intensity from subcontracted transport by 30% compared to 2022 levels.

To hit the goals, GEODIS plans major investments in alternative vehicles, fuels and charging infrastructure for its owned fleet. It will also push for more sustainable fuels, optimised transport routes and modal shifts for subcontracted operations.

Marie-Christine Lombard, Chief Executive Officer of GEODIS, said: “For many years, GEODIS has been working seriously alongside its customers and partners on measuring and reducing its impact on the climate. Our new goals will further speed up the process, and they establish GEODIS as one of the most committed companies.

“This new phase is fully in line with the Group’s ambition to make its lines of business more sustainable and to provide our customers with innovative, sustainable and ethical logistics offerings.”

The logistics firm highlighted that it will need to collaborate closely with customers and smaller transport companies to enable the industry-wide shift required. GEODIS also aims to improve energy efficiency across its sites by 40% and source over 90% low-carbon energy.

The company said digital tools and ongoing innovation will be critical to optimising vehicles, routes and buildings. It has also launched an extensive awareness campaign to educate staff on climate issues.

GEODIS said its executives already have climate targets built into their performance incentives. The emissions goals reflect the firm's commitment to reducing its environmental impact as part of its sustainable growth strategy.
