DB Schenker Rail UK to continue operating Royal Mail services

29 April 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Rail

DB Schenker Rail UK has secured a contract from UK's postal service company Royal Mail to operate mail services on the West Coast and East Coast main lines.

The new deal will see DB Schenker retain the contract it has operated since 2010. This deal will begin in June and will cover a minimum of three years.

As a result of the current agreement, DB Schenker Rail UK will continue operating six daily services on the West Coast Main Line and two on the East Coast Main Line.

Royal Mail Contract Operations head David Hawkins said: 'We are currently part way through a major refit programme and we are seeing the benefit of working with a partner that provides both operational solutions and engineering expertise.'

With these services, the company will be maintaining Royal Mail's fleet of 15 Class 325 mail trains.
Last year, DB Schenker supported the postal service firm to increase the carrying capabilities of the Class 325 units as part of the Royal Mail Capacity Improvement Project.

DB Schenker Rail UK Sales acting head Mark Fernandez said: 'We have enjoyed an excellent collaborative working relationship with the Royal Mail on the current contract, which includes consistently reliable delivery and considerable improvements in their Class 325 performance since we took over the locomotive maintenance.'

DB Schenker Rail UK currently operates more than 5,000 trains each week and employing more than 3,000 people in the UK.
