RFG welcomes additional security measures for rail freight

24 August 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Rail

The Rail Freight Group (RFG) has welcomed the news that home secretary Theresa May and French interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve are considering a deal to provide greater security measures to protect Channel freight traffic from being disrupted by people seeking entry to the UK.

It is hoped that better security and policing arrangements will help to avoid future loss of business and delays to production that are currently being experienced by hauliers, suppliers and customers alike.

A statement released by RFG emphasised the fact that these disruptions are also having a severe impact on cross Channel rail freight.

"Delays and disruption to trains caused by migrants invading the terminal at Calais are increasing, leading to cancelled rail freight services and a loss of customer confidence," the RFG stated.

Both ministers were urged to ensure that security measures form a fundamental part of any new deal.
